HBO joined Apple on stage Monday to announce its stand-alone service, HBO Now. It will be available in early April for $14.99 a month.
It will be exclusive to Apple devices, including the Apple TV. And speaking of the Apple TV, Apple is lowering the price of the device to $69, down from $99.
Being the exclusive partner for HBO Now is a bold move for HBO. The company has made its HBO Go service available to nearly a dozen different companies and services.
It also speaks to Apple’s potential at building out its own OTT (over-the-top) content service. If users want HBO without a cable subscription, they have to be on Apple devices.
