Fayetteville Teen Poisons Grandma’s Collards After She Has Her Cell Phone Taken Away

A teenager in Fayetteville, North Carolina has been arrested after she added insecticide to the collard greens her grandmother prepared for dinner. 17-year- old Tyt’ana Lisa-Nicole Johnson has been charged with two counts of attempted first degree murder, and was held in the Cumberland County jail with a $500,000 bond. What is even more disturbing is that the poisoning occurred because the grandmother, Gaylon Moody, took the girl’s cell phone away for a week. According to the police warrant Johnson poured both termite killer and insecticide into a pot of collard greens cooking on the stove because the teen knew that her grandmother would eat the greens for dinner later that day. After returning from church services Moody and a friend, Clifton Evans, ate the meal with the poisoned greens.

According to Moody “About an hour and a half later, we started getting sick,” she said. “My fingers started feeling numb, (and it spread to) my chest, my face, my mouth. We were staggering like we were intoxicated, but neither one of us drank.”  Luckily one of the grandmother’s friends overhead Johnson making comments about making her grandmother sick and the friend rushed to the home to check on Moody. The friend drove Moody and Evans to the hospital where they were kept overnight. After returning from the hospital the grandmother found the empty bottle of pesticide in a cabinet at home and the pair confronted Johnson. Evans said Johnson responded when confronted by saying ‘Mr. Evans, I didn’t mean to make you sick. I was trying to get back at grandma.” Evans continued by saying “They got her locked up, but she needs help. Seriously, something’s wrong with her. People don’t do that over cellphones.” If the teen makes bail she is not allowed any contact with Moody or Evans and would have to go into Children’s Protective Services.
