The media arm of Islamic State released a video Tuesday purporting to show a young boy killing an Israeli Arab accused of being a spy.
ISIS says the man executed in the video, who is identified as Mohamed Said Ismail Musallam, was working Israel’s intelligence agency Mossad. The highly produced video, which is about 13 minutes long, shows 19-year-old Musallam dressed in an orange jumpsuit and talking about how he was recruited by Israeli intelligence.
Musallam claims his mission was to gather information about ISIS bases and weapons’ caches. Musallam says he was also tasked with finding the names of Palestinians with Israeli citizenship.
After this section of the video, it cuts to to a scene with a young boy and an ISIS member in fatigues. The boy, who the militant in the video describes as a young lion of the caliphate, shoots Musallam.
Haaretz reports that Musallam’s family confirmed to the newspaper that the teenager had travelled to Syria to fight for ISIS. The militant group published an article in its magazine Dabiq, which was titled “Interview with a spy working for the Israeli Mossad.”
Musallam’s father said his son, who had worked as a national service volunteer with the Israeli firefighting service, left East Jerusalem three months ago. According to Haaretz, his father said he was traveling to the city of Rishon Letzon, about 5 miles south of Tel Aviv, to participate in a training course, but he never returned.
