LOS ANGELES — Leonard Nimoy was hospitalized late last week after experiencing severe chest pains, following multiple trips to the hospital for the Star Trek star in the past months, TMZ reported Monday.
It wasn’t clear whether Nimoy was still being treated; reps for the 83-year old actor could not be reached Monday, and the UCLA Medical Center where he was admitted last Thursday does not release patient information.
But his friend and Trek co-star William Shatner was one of many to tweet his best wishes on Monday afternoon:
I am uplifted by the show of love & caring tweeted to my dear friend @TheRealNimoy. I join the chorus of well wishers for a quick recovery!

Nimoy suffers from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, a progressive disease that makes breathing difficult. Though Nimoy had quit smoking decades ago, it’s clear from his Twitter feed (which he always signs “LLAP” for “Live Long and Prosper”) that he blames his health struggles on the habit:
Don’t smoke. I did. Wish I never had. LLAP
