Meet sisterly trio Amor Kismet.

Atlanta-based girl group Amor Kismet are three young ladies you need to watch. Not only are they vocalists, but these women are 100 percent musicians. Every member of Amor Kismet plays the guitar and congas, and not to mention, they write all their own songs.

Over the past few months, Erika, LJ, and Crystal have been working tirelessly on their new The Love EP, and luckily for them, they have music heavyweights like Scooter Braun’s producer Bernard “BHarv” Harvey and Usher’s vocal coach Jan “Mama J” Smith on their side.

We got the chance to chat it up with the vocally gifted trio a few weeks ago. Get to know Amor Kismet in our exclusive interview below.

GlobalGrind: Explain the origin of the group name Amor Kismet, and what it means to you as artists.

Erika: ‘Amor’ is a word from the Spanish language and ‘Kismet’ has Arabic origins. The words mean ‘love’ and ‘fate’ and we wanted to put those together since it’s love’s fate that we’re three sisters who are all musical. We adore the name because it pulls from different cultures and so does our music.

How hard is it to be in a group with your sisters?

LJ: Well, with everything there are challenges. As siblings there is that undeniable familiarity—so we are not always the most agreeable. But we know it’s coming from a good place and we’re always completely honest with each other.

Do you all fight much?

Crystal: Not really. If y’all asked us this when we were little girls… oh yes! All the time. But now, no.

Tell me about your ability to play instruments, and at what age did you pick up the guitar and congas?

LJ: The guitar and congas were more recent additions. We’ve been singing forever, but in the past five years or so, we started adding in the instruments and playing more acoustic shows.

How old were you all when you first started singing?

LJ: I was 7.
Crystal: 4.
Erika: 3.

What are a few of your musical inspirations?

Crystal: Selena Quintanilla-Pérez is our biggest inspiration.
Erika: We also love Michael Jackson, Sade, and Aaliyah.

Who is your dream collaboration?

LJ: We would love to do a song with Damian Marley. We love his dad.

If you could collaborate with any pop artist, who would you collaborate with?

Crystal: Sam Smith would be cool to collaborate with. We love his voice and songwriting skills.

What upcoming music projects are you working on?

Erika: Well we just released our debut EP—The Love EP—with four original songs. We’re really excited for people to hear some recorded music from us for the first time! People always ask us describe our sound since it’s not typical. Now we can just play this for them!

How do you feel about comparisons to sister trio HAIM?

LJ: People haven’t really compared us to them, but they’re really talented, so we’ll take it. We love sister trios, though—can’t beat the harmonies!

What’s your favorite thing to do besides make music?

LJ: We love cooking.
Crystal: Making each other laugh.
Erika: Shopping, the list goes on…

What’s your favorite thing to eat?

LJ: Thai food.
Erika: And vegan. All three of us are vegan.

Who’s your favorite person?

LJ: Ah, just one person! Impossible. Our mom, siblings, Matt, our manager, and our whole team.
