New Site Offers Motivation And Business Advice For Black Women Entrepreneurs

Created by R’Chelle Mullins and Krissy Henry, Brown Girl Friendly was originally started last year as a beauty blog… Going a step further, the women started a Facebook group where they would give free business tips to members, but because both women are certified in marketing, giving away free business advice on Facebook felt like a missed opportunity… So, they gutted their entire site and started fresh. The new site… is an online community where content creators and entrepreneurs can network, get business coaching, gain exposure and learn more about branding, photography and design through worksheets and modules, which users are free to complete at their own pace.

…Black women business owners have risen 322 percent in less than 20 years compared to a 40 percent growth for non-minority women. These numbers come from the 2015 State of Women-Owned Businesses Report. The report, commissioned by American Express, set out to show the growing numbers of diversity among entrepreneurs. Asian American women business owners grew by 195 percent while Latina women grew by 224 percent. But this does not mean the hard work is over as minority women business owners are still a smaller group than non-minority owners when looking at the complete picture of women entrepreneurs…
