New York, N.Y. – Saturday February 21, marks the 50-year anniversary of the murder of Malcolm X. He was gunned down in the Audubon Ballroom in New York City on February 21, 1965, at the age of 39.
Although fifty years have passed since his killing, his words still ring just as true today as they did then. His ideas are at the center of national debate over the treatment of minorities by the criminal justice system and have taken center stage with the recent events in Ferguson and New York.
“They attack, bust you all upside your mouth, and then take you to court and charge you with assault… What kind of democracy is that? What kind of freedom is that? What kind of social or political system is it… They attack the victim, and then the criminal who attacked the victim accuses the victim of attacking him. This is American justice, this is American democracy and those of you that are familiar with it know that democracy is hypocrisy,” said Malcolm X.
When it comes to police violence and brutality, very little has changed over the past 50-years. The main difference now is that the police have become an equal opportunity brutalizing machine and will just as readily beat, shoot or kill anyone now, regardless of skin color.

While racism still remains a potent force for evil within most police departments, the black vs. white dynamic of old has largely grown into a blue vs. everyone dynamic.
The police state has grown into a blue leviathan that is accountable to no one and understands only force.
