Early Friday morning a group of inmates at the Willacy County Correctional Center in Raymondville, TX, refused to participate in the normal routine of work duties and breakfast. Their numbers eventually totally over 2,000 as the demonstration spilled out into the prison yard and quickly evolved into a full scale riot.
The facility, about fifty miles north of Brownsville, TX, is being used to house illegal alien prisoners, some of which are awaiting deportation. The inmates claim their dissatisfaction over the medical treatment they are receiving at the facility sparked the uprising, but the recent decision against amnesty by a Federal Judge in the very same state may have been enough to sufficiently elevate tensions among the illegal population. In one day they went from Obama’s going to pay my rent and buy me a new Chevy, my drugs, my munchies and my beer to a one way bus ticket home.
In the new normal of the United States, illegal aliens are held as esteemed guests, above the ordinary American citizens. It is understandable how they might be upset at being treated as common criminals. The prospect of returning to their native countries where they are just another average Jose might have been just too much to handle for some.
Fires were set in three of the units, with Sheriff’s Deputies and the U.S. Border Patrol responding to the scene. The Raymondville Fire Department stood by as a precautionary measure, with local schools ordered into a soft lockdown.
One thousand of the inmates did not participate in the uprising, which resulted in minor injuries to two officers and one inmate.
In spite of 2,000 fanatical frenzied inmates climbing, pushing against, rocking and attempting to force their way through the double fencing that surrounds the facility, not a single one succeeded. The fence remained intact. It is just more proof that motivated illegal aliens are no match for a properly constructed and designed fence.
There is one exception to that rule. The fence that is never built, which is what we have “in place” along much of our southern border, is much less effective at providing security. It’s virtually useless.
